However, fully autonomous cars that can operate without any human intervention in all conditions are still in development and not yet widely available for public use.<\/p>\r\n<p>The current state of autonomous vehicle technology varies widely depending on the level of autonomy. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) defines six levels of vehicle automation, ranging from Level 0, which has no automation, to Level 5, which is full automation with no need for a human driver.<\/p>\r\n<p>Most autonomous cars on the road today fall somewhere between Level 2 and Level 3, which offer partial automation such as lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and some limited ability to control the vehicle in certain situations.<\/p>\r\n<p>The development of fully autonomous cars is still ongoing, with significant progress being made by companies such as Tesla, Google&#8217;s Waymo, and General Motors&#8217; Cruise.
